Terms of use

Last updated: 27 October 2026. These terms cover the Jarful app at app.jarful.co.nz.

Who you are contracting with

Jarful is provided by Rebellion Limited t/a Jarful, a New Zealand limited company (NZBN 9429050622870). Our registered office and address for service is Suite 6, 33 Hairini Street, Hairini, Tauranga 3112, New Zealand. In these terms, “we” means Rebellion Limited. “You” means the person who creates an account or uses the app.

Questions go to support@getjamjar.com.

The service

Jarful is a tool for a household to record and organise its own money: transactions, budgets, bills, forecasts and the other features that are switched on for that household. You can import bank statements. Live bank feeds, when we have turned them on, are read-only through Akahu. The app cannot move your money.

Figures in the app, including forecasts, payoff dates and estimated replacement values, can be wrong or out of date. You decide what to do with your money.

Not financial advice

Jarful is not a financial adviser and is not offering financial advice, a recommendation to buy or sell a financial product, credit, or insurance. Nothing in the app, including an answer from Ask Jarful or a “how to cancel” guide, is a personal financial recommendation. You should get advice from a qualified person if you need it.

Your account

You sign in with a code we email you, or with a passkey you add. Entering your email and confirming the code creates an account if you do not already have one. You need to be 18 or older, and able to agree to these terms. Jarful is for people who hold their own bank account.

You are responsible for the email inbox and the devices you use to sign in, and you must keep that sign-in secure. Do not let another person use your sign-in, and do not use someone else’s. If someone has accessed your account without permission, or you suspect a bank connection has been compromised, tell us promptly. What to send, and what we may do, is under Suspending or ending access.

A household can have more than one person. People you invite can see the household’s records. Invite only people you are willing to share that information with, and only information you are allowed to put into the app. An owner manages billing and invites. The privacy policy describes what is stored and who can see an export.

Trial, subscription and cancellation

A new household has a free trial of 14 days. The trial does not ask for a card. During the trial you can edit the household.

The standard price is NZ$12.99 a month or NZ$129 a year. Households that started a subscription at the earlier introductory price (NZ$9.99 a month or NZ$99 a year) before 6 November 2026 keep that price for as long as that subscription stays active; that price is no longer offered to new subscriptions. From time to time we may offer a discount for new subscriptions; its terms and end date are shown where it is offered, and after the discount period the standard price applies. If a subscription ends and you subscribe again later, the standard price applies. All prices are in New Zealand dollars and include GST.

A household owner chooses monthly or annual on Stripe. If you subscribe while more than 48 hours of the trial remain, and there is no subscription yet, the remaining trial is kept on the Stripe subscription. Only an owner can open checkout or the billing portal. A promotion code can be entered on Stripe’s checkout page if Stripe accepts it.

If a renewal payment fails, Stripe can mark the subscription past due and retry the card. You can keep editing while the status is past due. When the trial has ended and the subscription is not active, trialing or past due, the household becomes read-only. You can still view it, export, disconnect a bank, and delete the account. Edits are refused until it is paid again.

You can cancel at any time in Stripe’s billing portal and keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. The next renewal then does not go ahead. In the first 30 days of your first paid period, email support@getjamjar.com and we will refund the fees you paid for that period. After that first period we do not refund unused days. Deleting your Jarful account cancels the Stripe subscription immediately, which can end access before the period ends. None of this limits a refund or other remedy the Consumer Guarantees Act gives you.

Consumer Guarantees Act and Fair Trading Act

Jarful is a household service. If you are a consumer under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, that Act applies, including guarantees that the service will be provided with reasonable care and skill and will be fit for the purpose you make known to us. The Fair Trading Act 1986 also applies. Nothing in these terms limits, excludes, or changes rights that those Acts give you. We do not contract out of the Consumer Guarantees Act for consumers.

Section 43 of the Consumer Guarantees Act allows a written contracting out only where the service is supplied and acquired in trade, every party is in trade and agrees to contract out, and it is fair and reasonable that the parties are bound by that agreement. If, and only if, every one of those conditions is met, you agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply to that business use. These terms are the written agreement. If any condition is not met, including where you are a consumer, the Act applies in full. This paragraph is not permission to use Jarful for a business. Acceptable use still limits Jarful to your own household’s budgeting. It does not affect the Fair Trading Act 1986.

Acceptable use

You may use Jarful only for your own household’s budgeting. Put in information you are allowed to use. That includes bank data only for accounts you are authorised to access and allowed to share with the household. Leave other households’ information alone.

You must not:

  • Use Jarful in a way that is illegal or fraudulent.
  • Scrape Jarful, or harvest data from it.
  • Send automated, excessive or flooding requests to the app, or to a bank-feed connection. That includes bots, scripts and load testing.
  • Reverse-engineer or decompile Jarful, or try to get around a limit or a security control.
  • Carry out security testing or penetration testing of Jarful, or of a bank-feed connection, unless we have given you written permission first. Ask support@getjamjar.com.
  • Sell, on-sell, share, publish or pass on bank data, or any other data from Jarful, to a third party. A person you have invited into your household is not a third party for information that household is allowed to hold. You must still invite only people you are willing to share it with.
  • Connect a bank account you are not authorised to access, or use someone else’s credentials. That includes another person’s email, sign-in code, passkey or bank login.

If a subscription is unpaid after the trial, the household becomes read-only as described above. That is separate from the steps we can take for misuse.

Suspending or ending access

Keep your sign-in secure. If you know, or reasonably suspect, that someone has accessed your account without permission, or that a bank connection has been compromised, tell us promptly at support@getjamjar.com. Tell us what happened, and the email address on the account.

Rebellion Limited may suspend or end an account, restrict features, and disconnect bank feeds if:

  • you misuse Jarful, or we reasonably suspect misuse;
  • you breach these terms;
  • there is a security risk to you, to another household, to Jarful, or to a bank connection; or
  • Akahu, a bank, or a regulator asks us to.

Where it is reasonable, we may do this immediately and without notice. We use this right only so far as is reasonably necessary to protect our legitimate interests: the security of Jarful and of bank connections, other households, and our duties to Akahu, a bank or a regulator. A minor breach that does not create one of those risks, and that you fix when we ask, is not on its own a reason to end the account. Where we can tell you without making the risk worse, we will. If the account is still open, you can export as described under Export and deletion, unless we have to keep it restricted for security or because Akahu, a bank or a regulator has asked us not to release the data.

Nothing in this section limits a right or remedy the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 gives you.

Bank feeds

Bank feeds are optional and are off until we turn them on. They are provided with Akahu. Your agreement with your bank, and Akahu’s terms, are between you and them. Which institutions appear is decided on Akahu’s consent screen.

You can disconnect in the app, or withdraw consent on Akahu’s screen. Disconnecting stops new imports and deletes the access token. Transactions already in the household stay until you delete them or the household is deleted. The privacy policy explains what is read and how consent is revoked.

AI features

Ask Jarful, receipt and document reading, and on-demand cancel guides are included for every paying or trial household as AI extras, with a fair-use limit. You do not have to use them. They can be incomplete or wrong. Check anything you rely on. They are not financial advice. What is sent to the AI provider is described in the privacy policy. You can turn Ask Jarful off in Settings, and you can turn the AI extras module off for the household.

Export and deletion

From Settings → Privacy & data you can download the household as JSON, or the transactions as CSV. The JSON download does not include the photo and document files themselves. Ask us if you need those.

You can delete your account there. That signs you out and removes your login. If you are the only member of a household, the household and its budget records and files are deleted, bank connections are revoked, and any Stripe subscription is cancelled. A security log and stored Stripe event ids can remain, without your email address. If other people remain, the household stays with them, your bank connections are revoked, and if you were the only owner the owner role passes to another member. Export first if you want a copy. Deletion cannot be undone.

Chats and notification subscriptions already stored on a household that continues are not removed by the current delete step. The privacy policy states that in more detail.

Availability

We aim to keep Jarful available. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Features can change. Bank feeds depend on Akahu and the institutions it connects to.

Your indemnity

As far as New Zealand law allows, you indemnify Rebellion Limited against loss, claims and costs arising from:

  • your misuse of Jarful;
  • your breach of these terms; or
  • your breach of the law.

The indemnity also covers that same conduct by a person you allowed to use your account, and misuse through a bank connection you made, where the conduct is a breach of these terms or of the law. It covers loss we actually suffer, and reasonable costs, including reasonable legal costs. It covers a claim Akahu, a bank, or another person makes against us because of that conduct. It is not a penalty or a fixed fee.

We rely on this indemnity only to the extent it is reasonably necessary to protect our legitimate interests. Those interests include being held responsible by Akahu, a bank or a regulator for your misuse or your breach of the law. It does not apply to loss caused by our breach of these terms, our negligence, or anything the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 does not allow us to pass on to you.

Nothing in this indemnity, or in the rest of these terms, limits, excludes or changes a guarantee, right or remedy the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 gives you that the law does not allow us to limit or exclude. If you are a consumer, we do not contract out of the Consumer Guarantees Act.

Liability

To the extent New Zealand law allows, we are not liable for loss of profit, or for decisions you make about spending, saving, debt, insurance or investments from figures in the app. Our total liability for a claim about the service is limited to the fees you paid us for Jarful in the 12 months before the claim.

This section limits our liability to you. It does not limit your indemnity under Your indemnity. It does not limit rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act or the Fair Trading Act. It does not limit liability for fraud, or any other liability that New Zealand law does not allow us to limit or exclude.

Changes to these terms

We will post updated terms on this page and change the date above. If you keep using Jarful after that date, you are accepting the updated terms. If you do not agree, cancel any subscription and delete your account before you continue. The app does not currently ask you to tick a box, and it does not store a record that you accepted a particular version.

New Zealand law

These terms are governed by New Zealand law. The courts of New Zealand can hear disputes about them. You can also use the Disputes Tribunal where it has jurisdiction. These terms do not require arbitration.
